Swatara Water Trail Access Points

Upper Swatara Water Trail

The Upper Swatara Water Trail begins at Pine Grove and travels through Swatara State Park. Lickdale Trailhead is the last access before the low head dam in Jonestown.

You must have a DCNR launch permit or a boat registration to launch from any location (at an access or any point along the bank) within the state park.

Jonestown Low Head Dam

There is no public portage around this dam. Please avoid the dam.

Middle Swatara Water Trail

The Middle Swatara Water Trail begins at Jonestown, just after the Jonestown Low Head Dam. It travels through farmland and past geological formations, eventually flowing into Dauphin County and ending at Boathouse Park, the last access before the Hershey Dam.

You must have a DCNR launch permit or a boat registration to use Water Works and Swatara Watershed Park Accesses.

Hershey Low Head Dam

There is a long portage on creek side left that is somewhat maintained. It can be challenging to exit the water at this location.

Lower Swatara Water Trail

The Lower Swatara Water Trail begins downstream of the Hershey Dam at travels through Union Deposit, Hummelstown past caverns and quarries, before ending at the Middletown Access, just before the confluence with the Susquehanna River.

You must have a DCNR launch permit or a boat registration to use the Fulling Mill Road and Middletown Accesses.
